Is Apple Books completely broken?

I’ve been buying new books on Apple Books app for a long time. But as of the last month or so when I search to purchase a new book, it only gives me the option to purchase an audio book. When I hit the books tab under search option, they often come up in a foreign language, not in English. I’ve restarted my iPad, I’ve reinstalled the app, I’ve checked that it’s turned on under iCloud. What the heck is going on!
