Does iMessage stay on MacBook after disk reset?

Hello,

I sold my MacBook and pressed command + r to erase my data.

however every video I watch says you have to manually go into iMessage before you reset to sign out. Does it matter if I didn’t do this?

Would all my messages still be on there even though I reset it and someone will have to reinstall macOS?

No, messages will not be on the laptop if you erased it unless you log back into your AppleID again.


You definitely need to remove your AppleID from managing this device. At the very least you need to remove this old laptop from FindMy. This is most easily done before erasing the computer, but you can still try to remove it from iCloud by using the instructions in these Apple articles:
