Sudden Data Loss - iPhone 14 Pro Max
I experienced a very odd patten of data loss on my iPhone today. This is the first time any phone I've owned has actually destroyed data that was already on the phone so am wondering what might have happened here.
Spent the whole day taking photos, probably had about 25 or so queued up. When I got home I saw all my Photos and it said Syncing 42 items to iCloud In Progress...
Three hours later it said the same thing. So I went to restart my phone. It would not turn back on after the screen went black during the reset. I pressed and held the power button. The phone would still not power on. I pressed Volume Up, Down, then held power. Finally the Apple logo appeared.
When I went to my photos, all the photos I took on my phone that had not already been uploaded to iCloud were destroyed. Gone. Poof!
I then remembered I had sent a number of them to my sister using LINE. Six hours worth of LINE messages also destroyed. Text messages and the photos. I was able to have her re-send the photos I had sent her, but sadly I had only given her two out of the 25 I had taken. The rest are gone forever :(
Reached out to Apple Support and they forgot about me in the middle of our chat and is about midnight here now -- so I will reach out to them again tomorrow. Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? I am assuming filesystem corruption or faulty storage. Very much doubt my iCloud account was hacked because these photos were never in iCloud they were just straight up lost from my device's local storage. Already checked Recently Deleted Items and Hidden Photos.
Thank you!
