Since release of iPadOS 17.4, of issues reported within the Support Community, some users have commented that when using an external monitor/display, screen mirroring is the only display view that is available.
Instead, reported issues are generally complaint that the expected extended desktop view, provided by Stage Manager, is not available.
Perhaps you can provide additional information about your problem, to include details of your iPad model - and the method by which you connect your iPad to your external display. Are you using:
- a wireless connection via AirPlay?
- a direct USB-C to USB-C wired connection to an external external monitor/display?
- a connected HDMI or VGA adapter - and appropriate cable to connect the adapter to the display?
Be aware that iPadOS 17.4, for Stage Manager to provide an extended desktop view for an external monitor, you must connect both an external Keyboard (Bluetooth or wired) and a Mouse or supported Trackpad before connecting the external monitor via USB-C or HDMI.
Unless both a Keyboard and Mouse/Trackpad are detected, Stage Manager for the external monitor is disabled - and you will only have access to a mirrored-display.
