How to change default font on my Mac mini?
Mac's default font capital I and lower case l number 1 can be confused. I want to change to a less ambiguous font.

Yes. System font, specifically for file names in Finder: For example, no difference between IT and lT, short for IzzyTax.pdf and linguistTax.pdf. Capital I and lower case l are the same in the system font. That's a MacOS bug, right? Thanks for explaining Apple doesn't allow it to be changed. It's easy to find things you can change in System Settings/Preferences, but how are we supposed to know what you can't change?
It is somewhat impossible to know to Whom the Author " NewYaka " is intending all of these replies to.
So to go out on a Limb of a tree
You are welcome
Apple Works the way Apple Always has worked
They Know what is better and what is not ( tongue in cheek )
The System Font is not a Bug , it is the Design of Apple
Should that not be acceptable to the Author
Then have a few suggestions ;
Start now and open an Apple Support Ticket as they are PAID Apple Employees to deal will these types of issues .
Product Feedback - Apple and make it known to Apple regarding this ongoing issue

Default font for what?
The system font itself cannot be changed, but just about anywhere where you can type tex, you can choose which font to use. So, please tell use where you want to use a different font.
Yes, it's hard as heck to tell them apart if they're not right next to each other.
But the main issue is you can't change the GUI font. Unlike Windows, Apple has never had an active desktop, or a resolution independent desktop. Apple decides what font gets used for the OS and that's it.

I do realize the user may or may mean in other usages.
Which your question would come to bear on this issue 😎
Though, the interpretation of " Mac's default font " could mean many things including the Default San Francisco font for the entire operation system ?

Il hmm, you're right. lf I expand them next to each other I can see maybe 10% difference. But if they're not next to each other, practically impossible. Can you tell that my first 'if' was misspelled? I can't. Yeah, I get your san serif point. But for a system font they should do better. Just searched, I think Linux lets you change it.
Il
They actually aren't identical. The lower case l is slightly taller than a capital I - as backwards as that seems.
But this a common issue with a lot sans serif fonts.
