I am getting a message "Background items added. Malwarebytes.app added items that can run in the background." Is this a scam?

If Malwarebytes is installed on your system then the message is legitimate. Malwarebytes is a well known and popular app for detecting malware on your Mac or iPhone. It has a free tier as well as paid subscriptions levels. The “added items” are malware database updates as the app gathers more information about threats.

Check your Applications folder and see if the app is there. Perhaps you or someone who uses your machine installed it. It is very legitimate software and is not a scam.
