Can’t turn Stolen Device Protection off
Trying to turn off Stolen Device protection because it is very inconvenient. But it won’t let me turn it off because it says I’m in an “unfamiliar location”. Except I’m at home.

I had tried to turn it off three times on three different days. Every time it told me I couldn't because I was in an "unfamiliar location"--even though I was at home. I tried to turn it off at night and again in the morning so I had not moved. I had waited out the time period because it was more than an hour between attempts. I was finally successful today when I did it as soon as the hour wait was up. I was actually in an unfamiliar location because I was driving around and doing errands.
Then you will probably need to just wait out the time period. All the information about stolen device protection is in the Related Article that you came to the forum from.
You haven’t included a link but I think you’re talking about this????

Hello~ I think there’s a time period in which to turn it off after the hour lockout…meaning turning it off as soon as countdown is over.

Apple's Stolen Device Protection is a new security feature introduced with iOS 17.3. Since iPhones running iOS 14.x, like the iPhone 7, can't be updated to iOS 17.3, they won't have this feature. iOS 17.4 is updated with Stolen Device Protection supports the option for increased security in all locations

He didn't need to include the link. It was noted in his post that it is at the top of the page as Related Article Link.
Hello~ If you will look above the Author’s post you will see that they came from that article. When * ChrisJ4293* responded … they had taken that into consideration. See this in their post “All the information about stolen device protection is in the Related Article that you came to the forum from.” So there was no need to post the thread again. Does that now make sense to you? No need to restate the obvious…

Glad you were able to get it taken care of. It doesn't seem to be the best as recognizing locations from what I've read, but I'm hoping that it can be a good way to deal with someone other than the owner trying to turn things off to get access to the device.
