Disable auto connecting in Finder

Even since i did a clean install of MacOS Sonoma 14.4, i found out an issue that's really anonymizing, but don't know if there is a quicker way to turn it off rather than the way i have been doing.

WHen I connect to my NAS (which appears in side-ba in Finder) I click "Connect as..", authenticate, and disconnect, and/or connect with other credentials for read-only..

The problem is this simple act keeps auto connecting in finder without first Connect as..

So in actual fact you could say all shares re able to autoconnect automatically... The only way to prvent auto connecting is to delete from "Connect to server" "Clear recent" and also remove entry friom keychain.

Is there something i'm missing here... ? Seems auto connecting sounds like a very bad idea without first authenticating.. every time...

Remember pass is NOT saved..if i click network network password type in keychain, the password field is empty

I can see this entry is a direct relation to auto connecting, but if its a network password why isn't it displayed?

When i authenticate normally, i authenticate with a password, but seems Mac is not showing it in keychain.

Well, its not actually "per share"

You know when you go to Finder, under Locations you click your network (NAS)

In a typical case you would get blank finder window with a "Connect as" button in right corner, but in my case all folders just appear (Connected as <the last user i authenticated as>)

This is not supposed to happen because technically unless you have different creds. for each share, the entire network would be open..

This only started happening in Sonoma...

Your right.. connecting via Connect to Server (Command+K) can be a workaround, but it kind of defeats the reason why its in side bar doesn't it... If i disconnect manually in Finder window, the next time i click NAS it connects up without me hitting Connect As..

So creds. must be saved somewhere regardless, but the only thing i can find in Keychain is "network password" type, and that has empty field in access control. For now, i've kinda gotten used to the "Clear recent Servers" but i might just switch to Command-K as well.

Ive never seen any SMB “auto-connect” unless there is a network share in the Login Items.

If the share is in the Sidebar, it will connect when clicked.

Perhaps what you are seeing is the desire to attempt to initially connect using your current login credentials or in le case of a Sidebar share, the credentials used to create the Location. I don’t know how to disable that. If you don’t want to connect to that share in the same way you did previously, you could use Connect to Server (cmd-k). You can use the user@server url scheme to set the desired user. You can save connection URL’s as favorites.

Not what I have experienced since at least Ventura (earlier I think). If you select a host in the sidebar, it will initially attempt to use your login credentials to connect. If it times out, you can connect as… When you log in, it will present available shares. Any selection of a share in Locations will use what worked the last time (saved) to mount the share.

No idea where you are going with that. You could have different crews for each share (multiple users). Why would the network be open?

Been that way since at least Ventura.

Yes, because it remembers the credentials.

The two SMB network shares I regularly connect are stored in my keychain. My home shares (Macs) all have the same login except Time Machine drive which has its own Sharing Only user with different credentials.
