My Hotmail account on my iPad has gone all squiffy!

This has started to happen in the past few months and is frustrating as ****. Everytime I go to mail on my iPad (iPad Pro, 3 years old - latest iOs) it keeps on asking for my passwordeven though I know my password is correct. This is what it looks like:

I know my pw is correct as Mail eventually dumps all my hotmail emails later in the day but when I check each time Im asked for a password. Also a new glitch has occurred as I'm noticing when I try to swipe read hotmail emails they won't disappear. Ive tried the trash icon from the actual email and that doesn't seem to work either. My other email accounts all work fine.

I'm just wondering if it might be my settings, an Outlook server for an Exchange account?. Also, what's the difference between an Exchange account and and a regular Outlook account?

Your old device probably needs app specific password to access hotmail/outlook account on a 3rd party software like apple mail.

You can confirm this with Microsoft support or look at their help site.

“. . . what's the difference between an Exchange account and a regular Outlook account?”

Exchange is Microsoft’s dedicated mail server software. It’s specialist software generally used by business and/or educational institutions for providing email (and other work/school related content/services) to staff/employees. Outlook is Microsoft’s dedicated email application for sending and receiving email for any email accounts eg: gmail, hotmail etc.

When Outlook is used in conjunction with an Exchange mail server it can also be used for scheduling, calendaring, meeting rooms, quick chats etc with work or school colleagues using that same server.

Hopefully the above explains the difference? BTW you don’t have to use Outlook for email as there are (in my view) better and easier and free alternatives. Apple mail is one for example. That’s not to say that Outlook is no good because it clearly is a fuller featured mail application when used in conjunction with an Exchange server. And that’s the problem I have with it when using it for non-Exchange server mail accounts.
