Downloading podcasts on iphone

Pocasts will not download unless im connected to carplay

CarPlay and Podcasts ignores "downloaded" list from iPhone I keep only 3 episodes of my podcasts on my iPhone. I play my podcasts from the Downloaded list, allowing me to play the oldest first and play them in downloaded order. CarPlay in my car has no route to reach the downloaded list. It also seems CarPlay ignores the choice made from my iPhone. Has anyone come across any circumventions or resolutions? [Edit: the device in the post details is incorrect. Podcast cannot download new episodes New episodes in podcast that I have subscribed to cannot be downloaded. They are in the download page that says preparing to download but doesn't go anywhere further. I am on wifi the whole time and I am using iPhone 6 in iOS 12.4.4
