Does Apple Watch work with Libre 2?
I would like to know if I can link a smartphone to my Libre 2 device (via my iPhone) so I can see my blood glucose readings.

An update to my quest to get Libre 2 alarms on my Apple Watch. After a very frustrating couple of days going through YouTube videos, trawling through various diabetic forums, I have finally found the solution. First, set yourself up to receive notifications from LibreLinkUp. Second, download the Sweet Dreams app. When you open the app it will ask for your LibreLinkUp username and password. Pop those in and off you go! Sooo much simpler than all the other options I have tried (Gluroo, NightScout, Shuggah). I can now see my Libre 2 CGM readings on my watch and at night, with the iPhone locked, alarms vibrate on my wrist. Note: if your iPhone is unlocked, the notifications will not come through to your watch.

I believe it could if the makers of the device created such an app. But, apparently, they haven't.
they don't seem to have a standalone app for the apple watch
but the apple watch will still show notifications the iphone it's connected to
so if their app send notifications to the iphone they will also show up on the watch
judging from their site then their product is the hardware that the watch is missing in form of what looks like an airtag a bit, and it shows the iphone app which would be communicating with the iphone giving the notifications the iphone would then show on the watch, and then a smartphone app (iphone and android)
if apple watch had the ward to read blood glucose then libra 2 app and tag would not be needed
Hi Rudegar, many thanks for your reply. I just spoke to a guy at Apple Customer Services and he said that the current smartwatch will not display the Libre 2 blood glucose readings. He said the smartwatch doesn’t have the hardware capabilities of the iPhone and that there are no smartwatch apps for this device. He also said they get lots of requests for this kind of functionality but there are no plans to introduce it.
Your reply seems to suggest otherwise. Am I missing something?
It would be up to the makers of the Libre 2 to create an app that would work on your Apple Watch. They could certainly do that. It would use the data collected by your CGM.
I think what the person at the store was talking about was the Apple Watch being able to take glucose readings on its own with no other hardware. It does appear that there's a lot of demand for this feature but my understanding is the technology isn't there yet. It may be awhile before a watch can monitor blood glucose levels are accurately as a CGM.

I don’t appear to be able to see the answer to the question in the thread?
I think Idris was referring to this post

Also there are 2 pages of replies in this thread, so you may want to look at both pages.
Hi BHT, sadly not. Your iPhone needs to be in close proximity for it to trigger your watch to vibrate. I don’t think having a cellular watch would work either because Sweet Dreams and Libre Link up use Bluetooth. I guess the limiting factor is the strength of your home WiFi. If you have WiFi boosters around your home, maybe it would work. Sorry, probably not the answer you were hoping for.
Hi BHT, my Apple Watch is the series 9. Monitoring the Libre 2 is about the only thing I use it for but I still think it’s worth it.
Sadly not. They need to be in range to work.
Thank you IdrisSeabright for your response and the very useful link.
I understand that the smartphone itself is not equipped to directly record CGM data from the Libre 2 but can it read the data from the iPhone and display it on the watchface via Bluetooth or some other way?
Sorry to ask again, I think two threads were merged here and I'm slightly confused.
So, your Apple Watch is 9. Perfect. That much I get.
But when you use this Sweet Dreams app on it, do you still have to stay in range of your phone so it can communicate with your Libre2 patch, does your phone have to take the signal from the patch, then send it to the watch?
The entire reason for me to get an Apple Watch is so it can monitor and vibrate for when my levels are low - without my phone near me. (Say I leave it downstairs, or in the backroom of my work).
Do you need to be on a cellular plan for the App you're using to monitor your Libre2 patch if the phone is nowhere around?
I hope this doesn't bother you - I just don't want to get the AppleWatch if it doesn't do this. If it did it already, I would of bought one - but the FB is cheaper - and while it doesn't monitor Libre2 either, it'll be my choice if I can't do the apple watch thing without my phone near it.
ToxicWleper.
Can you tell me what version of apple watch you have?
I don't want to get the apple watch if it's not going to constantly be monitoring my Libre 2 tag.
Perfect! Thanks!!
Another question…. Does my iPhone always have to be in range, or if I left it home would my libre2 still talk to the iwatch?
