I am not able to selectively close apps on my Apple Watch

I have series9 watch running watch OS10. When I double click crown it displays task manager with open apps tiles for a split second and then goes to last app used. By it doing this I am not able to selectively close apps. Any ideas why this is happening?

I thought it might save battery. Double clicking crown is also a way to switch apps. Since it quickly changes from the tiles to last app I can't use this feature for app switching.

Actually, force closing apps is likely to use slightly more battery. It takes more energy to completely relaunch an app than it does to unsuspend it. Either way, the difference will be miniscule.

I think the reason it's going to the last app is because you're tapping to quickly. There's kind of a sweet spot between tapping quickly enough to bring up the recently used apps and between bringing up the last used one.
