Notification number on Calendar app icon on dock

I am on MacOS 14.2.1 on my MacBook Lite and I had a little round circle with a number on it on my Calendar app icon which is in my dock. It only started a few weeks ago (? for a while now). I did not know what it was and asked on the Support Community and got some queries and "answers" from the Community on what it was and how to get rid of it. It is the number of Notifications from others outside of my Calendar I presume trying to add calendar events on my Calendar. I don't know what they are nor how to clear them.

I just cleared them by going to the Calendar app under Settings and turned off the Notifications selection from On to Off. That cleared the add on to the icon. I don't know if I will miss this information or not but I can't see what was making it do that so I am assuming it doesn't matter. I do not know of anyone who is trying to notify me about calendar events. In any case this is how I cleared the Calendar icon number.

You're right, that number on the Calendar app icon in your Dock is the number of notifications you have for calendar events. These are likely invitations or updates sent by others who want to add events to your calendar.

Here are a few ways to clear those notifications:

1. Respond to the notification directly:

  • Hover your mouse over the notification bubble on the Calendar icon in your Dock.
  • You'll see options to "Accept," "Decline," or "Maybe" for the event invitation. Clicking one of these will remove the notification.

2. Open Calendar and address the notifications:

  • Open the Calendar app.
  • You'll see the notifications listed in the app. You can then accept, decline, or view more details about each event. Once you take action on a notification, it will disappear.

3. Turn off notifications for specific calendars (optional):

  • If the notifications are coming from calendars you don't use often, you can turn off notifications for those calendars.
  • Open Calendar.
  • Control-click on the calendar name in the list on the left.
  • Choose "Get Info."
  • In the Info window, uncheck the box next to "Ignore alerts."
  • Click "OK."

4. Temporarily disable notifications for Calendar (not recommended):

  • This is a less ideal solution, but it can be helpful if you're overwhelmed with notifications.
  • Go to System Settings > Notifications.
  • In the list on the left, select "Calendar."
  • Choose "None" for the alert style. This will turn off all notifications for Calendar until you turn them back on.

By following these steps, you should be able to clear the notification badge on your Calendar app icon and manage future notifications more effectively.

I could never find any notifications in the app despite multiple multiple attempts. So your items 1 and 2 would not work. As of right now I still have not found the notifications so could not understand nor address any specific notifications. As I noted in my post the only way I found to get rid of them was to turn off the switch for all notifications. I’ll check again. One of my ongoing frustrations is how different the app works on my iPhone and my MacBook. Thanks for your response. I’ll look one more time.
