Just installed macbook air 13.3" laptop and battery charge stays at 1%.

Bought brand new macbook air laptop with M1 chip about 3 years ago and never opened the box until two days ago. I attempted to install the computer, and found shockingly that the battery did not take a charge (stayed at 1%) after numerous attempts). Model number for laptop is "A2337". The laptop only works when plugged into electrical outlet. Not sure what the issue is and how to seek remedy. Again this is a brand new computer bought about 3 years ago but only opened 2 days ago. Any suggestions on what to do or why the battery on the brand new "unused" computer would not sustain any charge? Any help would be appreciated.

Lithium ion batteries do NOT tolerate being left completely discharged for long periods of time. The battery is most likely toast and will have to be replaced.

Unfortunately, you’re going to have to pay for that. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store.

Thanks for your input and timely advise. As you correctly pointed out I would have to eventually pay for a replacement battery as the manufacturer's warranttee (Apple) may have expired.

Just wondering if any one in the community has ever consider installation of replacement battery from a third party? If so, your recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in dvance.
