adding photos to macbook pro from messages

Before anyone suggests i use iCloud..... that is not going to happen so don't bother.

Now for the issue.

My daughter sent me a photo that I want to add to my photos library on my new macbook pro. I right clicked on the photo and a popup gives options and I choose "add to photo library". I checked my photo library and it didn't work. I then clicked on the little download icon and it turned blue but again no success. I even tried to make a new library but it won't give me the option to place the photo there. I then checked finder and nothing to find there of that photo. With my old macbook air I never had this issue. Is there something wrong with my photo library?

It may depend on where you are looking. The best place to look is in Recents.

From Messages, pictures go into the System Library. Is it possible you have more than one Library? You can check by closing Photos and then option-clicking on the Photos icon. You get a dialog box show all the Photos Libraries that Photos knows about, and it shows which was Last Opened and which is the System Library.

Thank you for your response. I did check recents and it is not showing there. Plus i did everything you suggested with no solution. So I just now checked for new updates and the there was an new update for the operating system and so I updated it. It is working now. I wonder if there was a minor bug that the update corrected.,

Again thank you.
