MacBook Air displays incorrect storage space
Update says not enough storage, but there is 24Gb unused on my hard disc. What's wrong?

Storage displays are very misleading. It probably says 24 GB "available". That means that it actually is used.
You'll need 100-200 GB of actual "free" storage, as shown in Disk Utility (and only Disk Utility) to avoid problems. Find large files that you created and deleted them or copy them to external storage. Stay out of hidden holders. Then you'll have to wait a day or two for the system to actually release the files.

Generally you need more free storage than the size of the installer. You didn't state which version you are upgrading to but 40 to 50 GBs is a safe guess.
