I'm having trouble with some websites on Safari 13.1.2

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017) using macOS High Sierra v 10.13.6. Having trouble with some websites due to "out-of-date" browser. I love my machine and am reticent to change hardware or upgrade to a newer OS (if that is even possible).

I have browsed other similar posts on the community with similar problems, and it seems that going to Mozilla or Brave may be the way to go. (John Galt's recommendation).

I investigated Mozilla, and it seems that Mozilla ESR is the ticket, however, after September of this year (2024) they will no longer send security upgrades (only up through ESR 115? After that they recommend upgrading my OS. That evidently will get me to September, but I would like a longer term solution without upgrading my OS. Am I dreaming?

When I checked out Brave, I couldn't find out the system requirements for their product. Will I be facing a similar situation with Brave?

If I have to upgrade my OS, I will. If I need to chuck the MacBook, I will. But don't want to if at all possible. I like my 2017 MacBook!

Somebody help me with my dilemma.

If it was mine I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade it to a more current macOS. It can be upgraded as far as Ventura. See the following from Identify your MacBook Pro - Apple Support

Just wanted to close the loop on this one. Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks to all of the info gleaned from this awesome community, my MacBook Pro is back in business. I downloaded Ventura 13.6.6 after double checking with Apple Support. With the updated Safari browser, I have alleviated my earlier concerns (the ones that started this thread to begin with). I should have done this much sooner, but I was reticent to do so worried about the upgrade - I remember issues with upgrades from my PC days. The download was seamless. I am a Mac convert for life. A much superior product and worth the additional initial cost.

The upgrade to Ventura will include Safari 17.4 which is the current version of Safari. Also, if Apple continues their current pattern you should be able to continue to update to a current Safari version even after the next major macOS release (that have been updating Safari for the latest macOS and 2 prior versions).

The major issue that you may encounter is that Catalina (10.15) was a very significant transition in that it was the first upgrade that would not run old 32-bit non-Apple apps. My previous post has information about how you can see if you have any of those. If so, you will need to upgrade them. You may halso have issues with older printers/scanners.

Also, if you use Microsoft Office, you will need a new version of that.

If you are currently using the iPhoto app on High Sierra, be sure to convert to the Photos app before upgrading. Hold down the option key while opening the Photos app and it will allow you to select your iPhotos Library and it will convert it to Photos format and open it.

Another major change is that iTunes was replaced. The iTunes app for Mac computers was discontinued and replaced when macOS Catalina was released. It cannot be installed on Macs that are running Catalina or later.

Functionality that used to be in the iTunes App on Macs is now in the Music app, Finder, and other apps.

Those are the major changes that occur to me. I don't have experience in upgrading that many versions (5 versions from Big Sur to Ventura) so unless someone else here with that experience replies, you may want to check with Apple Support first. Contact - Official Apple Support

And be sure to have a backup (always a good idea even when not upgrading).

If I have read the links correctly, if I upgrade to Ventura then I can keep Safari (with commensurate update I presume)? If correct, looks like a new OS is in my future.

BTW, here's an overview of my system: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports), 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 2133MHz LPDDR3

I will be entering uncharted territory with the OS upgrade. What can I expect? Pitfalls, etc. I'm a mechanical engineer, not an IT guy. (I'm a doctor Jim, not a bricklayer! LOL). Couldn't resist the classical reference.
