Apple TV HD requires further authentication to connect to Wi-Fi

I have an Apple TV HD 3rd generation and staying in a rental holiday home. I connected to the home WiFi by sharing the password through my iPhone (15 Pro) and it worked fine. Then we had the fuse box go off while Apple TV was off and it now continues to ask me to authenticate on iPhone or iPad to finalize Wi-Fi connection. However I just end up on the ISP landing page (same as I land when connecting my phone on network for first time) except the connection never finalizes… I have never had this issue despite having connected my Apple TV to hundreds of networks before… Anyone had this issue before?…

I purchased a 2nd Apple TV to replace an earlier model in my living room. Setup the new model with the same name “Living room” and it worked fine. old model unplugged sitting idle for a few days. Took the old model into our MIL suite and attached it the the LG tv and when i fired it up it logged into the wifi network fine but would not load any apps etc. “no network connection” after dicking around for half an hour it started popping up the authentication message just like the one above. Went into my eeros mesh network and saw that there were 2 Apple tv’s with the same name and one was being blocked. Tried to unblock it but it kept going back to “blocked” realized the naming was maybe the problem. Unplugged new Apple TV that was off in standby mode (it obviously keeps its IP address even when showing it’s off in standby mode) restarted the old unit in MIL suite changed the name and it instantly connected and started working fine. Plugged the new unit back in…..working fine. No more authentication windows. * note in a couple of the authentication windows I received it said the unit was paused with no options. That’s what led me to check the eeros mesh network. Good luck

The Apple TV box is intended to connect to a home network that only needs a network name and a password. For networks that needs a username and a password (captive network portal), the Apple TV box can’t connect on its own. However, by additionally using an iPhone for entering these details, the Apple TV box (tvOS 15.4 or later) can now connect to such networks too.
