Hi, I don't own an iPhone but my Dad does and apparently someone told him he needed to upgrade to Snow Leopard from Tiger. I don't know anything about it and I still know more than he does, he has OS4 but from what it looks like on the sites I've searched those browsers are for the Mac. Can someone tell me if this is a legitimate upgrade or what I need to know to handle this for him please? Also I don't live near him so I can't see what he's talking about either so if you need more information you'll have to tell me what to ask so I can call him. We both have PCs running XP. Thanks a lot.
OK, so let me ask you this. Will the iPhone iOS4 work with Tiger or do you have to upgrade the MacOS to Snow Leopard for the two to communicate? I think that's what the misunderstanding is. And how do you download the update? I'm assuming there's a shopping cart on this site somewhere? I know it won't work on a PC but just so I have a clear understanding when I go back to talk to him.
The iPhone 4 when being used with a Macintosh computer requires Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later and iTunes 9.2 or later. But you said your father has a PC running Windows, so I'm confused. Does he also have a Mac?
The iPhone also works with Windows systems: Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later, and again iTunes 9.2.
No he doesn't have a Mac but whoever is giving him advice does and it sounds like he left out a piece of the story to me. So basically I just wanna know what I need to tell him to buy, for a Mac running Tiger, so they upgrade enough to re-sync the phone with the computer. Will he have to buy a whole new installation of Mac OS X Snow Leopard or is there some kind of upgrade available or what have you?
If he doesn't have a Mac, he doesn't need to buy anything. Again, if he's running Windows XP, that's fine for use with an iPhone as long as the computer meets the other requirements:
Whoever is giving him "advice" is giving him totally erroneous suggestions unless there's some part of the story about what they're trying to accomplish that you haven't presented here.
