My Mac mini M2 running 14.1.2 will not connect to the new mail.yahoo.com (formerly frontier mail). I have noticed the local Accounts shows imap, but Apple's site shows the account as pop. What do I need to change? Rebooting and restarting mail does not seem to help.

The easiest way to fix that problem is to remove the problematic account, and add it again.
Refer to If you can’t send or receive email on Mac - Apple Support, and follow the instructions under "Remove your email account, then add it back." You would be choosing Yahoo! from the several options offered. Don't concern yourself with IMAP vs POP or any other minutia. It should work.
I partly agree with you. BUT, after spending some time with an Apple Support supervisor, he finally direct me to save all the emails, delete the account, then add it back as OTHER. In that process use Mail.Yahoo.Com as the server. It comes up as POP, which I thought was the old method, but it works. I had a lot of emails and it took a couple hours to reload all them from the server, but it appears to be working.
