iTunes Match: Some songs still in status 'Waiting"

I have a Windows PC (Windows 10 version 22H2) running iTunes 12.13.1.3, which as far as I can tell are the latest versions of both available. I have recently bought a MacBook Pro M3 running MacOS Sonoma 14.3.1 and I have updated the Music app.

On the PC I have 11000 songs in iTunes. They are a mix of downloaded (purchased off Amazon, not Apple) and ripped from CD (because I am old). I decided the best way to migrate my music and extensive playlists to the new Mac was to sign up to iTune Match. I had not used it before but signed up for the first time 2 months ago.

It seemed to work fairly well. All of the songs are visible in my Mac with a variety of statuses. 9000 of my 11000 songs were matched and uploaded and then I could access them from my Mac and even download a local version. But now I am a complete loss as to how to get the remaining 2000 to sync.

I assume the problem is on the PC to cloud end, rather than cloud to Mac. The PC shows the troublesome songs as 'Waiting" status with the dotted cloud symbol. I have tried:

  • Reboot, restart, shutdown etc.
  • Signed in and out multiple times
  • Deauthorised and reauthorised the computer
  • Gone into store and selected Match again
  • Ticked and unticked "iCloud Music Library" in general preferences
  • Library > Update iCloud Music Library (many, many, many times)

A lot of the above actions trigger the process to start and the little circle goes round in the top right corner and it shows some updates being done. Goes on for a good few minutes and then stops. No error message, but also no change. I have been stuck on the same 9000 for over a month now and literally run it 50 times.

There does not seem to be in pattern in the missing songs. A lot are part of albums where some songs have loaded fully where as other songs have not. The entire album and all songs show on the Mac but I just can't play the songs in "Waiting" status. They are shown as waiting in both PC and Mac. I have even checked the entire album is on Apple Music, which it is. My music tastes are not particularly abstract, it's all main stream stuff.

I have not trouble playing the missing 2000 songs off my PC nor when I sync it to my iPhone. They are all the same file type (mp3) and most were ripped at the same time. Some of my songs did not successfully "match" and my PC version did upload, so that part is working even if Apple can't find the songs, but no progress on the remaining.

Any advice on how to move forward?
