iPhone 13 Pro - Can settings be changed for better pictures?

When I saw my friend's iPhone x the pics were beautiful! So, I next upgrade I purchased an iPhone 13 Pro thinking the pictures would be just as good or better but they're awful. I feel like I wasted a whole lot of money and might just get a cheaper phone next time and start using my real camera again. In the meantime is there anything I can do in settings to make my photos better? I tried shooting in RAW but just got awful photos with huge files.
