How to fix file transfer issues with USB C Drive enclosures on MacBook Pro
I am relatively computer savvy, at least with Windows PCs. I bought my wife a 2.5" USB C drive enclosure and have a Kingston SSD installed. I initially formatted (exFAT) the drive on a windows computer since I was familiar with that process, perhaps this is my first mistake. For a while it seemed to work without issues but over time it would give issues writing to the drive and would not want to eject correctly. However on my windows computer the drive worked fine so I copied files to another drive and wiped and reformatted it and transferred files back. It again worked for 10-15 mins and then same problem. It has now gotten worse and on a fresh format will transfer around 1MB before the drive fails to transfer and says there is an issue with the file and it cant be transferred.
I have tried a clean wipe and format just to get the drive recognized and try to re-format in an Apple format but the drive fails both a First Aid attempt immediately and also Fails when trying to erase and reformat on MacOS. I have used the drive and transferred files over 1GB on Windows without issue.
I updated MacOS to Monterrey 12.7.4 from 12.1 and the issue persists. It seems some background process is constantly pinging the drive after an issue making it unable to be ejected without forcing.
