There are two ways to do this. You can either type Option-Command-S, or click on the square box to the right of the red, yellow and green buttons. Clicking on this box again will make the sidebar reappear! Hope this helps you!

Thanks again, Ian.

Fooling around I did find a workable answer to my hope for a clean note without the sidebar or the list of notes on the left. Double clicking on the title of the note in the list on note titles gave me a drop down menu. The top choice was 'Open Note in New Window.' That produced a single window note that was useful for my drafting purposes.

Thanks for the suggestions of other apps to try. I have used all of them some, but was hopeful to stay 'free' and just use Apple Notes. I think 'Open Note' will work fine.

Okay, I understand you! I´ve only one more idea, but I don´t think it´s really what you want. You can click on the symbol showing 4 small squares, which gets rid of the middle section but presents you with a gallery view...not ideal, and personally I never use it. Otherwise there´s no way I know of to remove the middle section and still show your notes in list form, which is what I think you want! It is what it is. But there are tons of other Notes apps on the App Store and elsewhere, maybe able to present your notes exactly like you want! Cheers, Ian.

Thank you, Ian. Unfortunately I did not state my question clearly. On my MacBook, Notes has three sections. The one farthest left is the sidebar that the icon you mentioned controls. On the left is the note area for text, scans, etc. In the middle is a list of titles of all the notes which I have sorted by 'Date Edited' It is this middle section of titles I was hoping to hide so that only the note I am editing shows. So far, there seems to be no way to hide that part of Notes.

Thanks

PS On your screenshot it is where 'Reset the Mac's Bluetooth...' shows.
