Missing "call" and "video" options on contacts

This issue just started to happen this month (March 2024).

I have contacts in my iPhone that are fully complete with phone numbers. If I navigate to this contact by going to Contacts or via my favorites list, I can call them and FaceTime them from their contact no problem.

If I receive a text message in iMessage and click their contact at the top of the screen, the "call" and "video" options are greyed out. I have to then click on "info" to get to their contact card and select their phone number to call.

This is happening on several contacts, some are favorited, some are not. All have FT/phone enabled phone numbers on the contact record. The text message brings through the contact record no problem.

I have restarted the phone more than once, and have seen this behavior come and go (although most come and stay) on most contacts I see this behavior on.

What is happening here??

Where are your Contacts stored?

What is your default Contacts account? If none, please add an email account and enable contacts.

Unlike some Android devices, contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in SIM. They are synced to an email account that you had Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other

If you have a corporate email account added through a profile on your device, please check with your organization's system administrator. See the pic below

Gmail! Interesting. I have both iCloud and Gmail as options (same as screen print you posted). Gmail is selected. No corporate email account on device.

However, I want to say that this was set to iCloud at one point.

Looks like others have had an issue of the default account for contacts changing automatically.
