My macbook pro monterey 12.7.4 won't link by usb or lightning to my iphone 13. Yes, they are both up to date. In finder on the macbook the icon for the iphone appears and disappears continually. I can't get them to recognise each other.

Unless you can try an original Apple USB cable, you can not rule out a hardware issue, either with your iPhone lightning port, or the 3rd party USB cable.
Can you connect your iPhone to another Mac, using this connection?
Are you using the original Apple USB cable that came with the iPhone?
Did you try another USB port on your MacBook Pro?
I don’t have the original USB cable. But I do have a new, good quality, one by another manufacturer, which works fine with my other devices. Yes, I did try the other port on the MacBook pro.
I found another lightning cable and it now works on both of our macbooks. So.. All sorted. Thanks for your help.
