Any news on RAW support for Sony Alpha ILCE-6600

New Sony a6700 is a great camera, but I didn't realize Apple doesn't support it yet. My editing efforts have been stifled. Any news when they might update? They have the other Sony alphas, but not this one one yet.

iMac 27″, macOS 12.7

Just been in Chat at Apple. The adviser told me it was a Sony issue and to contact them. He obviously did not understand the problem and terminated the chat whilst I was typing a reply. Appalling service and very rude with no result in sight. Means I cannot use Finder or Photos to view Sony A6700 RAW images. I can see them in Capture One my preferred processing software but you have to import them into a catalogue and have the device eg separate drive where they are stored permanently connected. Very dissatisfied.

In the recent years the RAW support is always a part of the system update, not a separate RAW update. So the support has been added to Sonoma, but not Ventura.

To be blunt, adding raw support does not seem to be a priority these days for Apple. So, some cameras are never supported, so partially supported and some fully so.

Options: Convert the raws to DNG with Adobe's free converter.

or

Use a third party app to manage these (and if you wish) all you photos.

Same with Photos. Item have to be imported into the catalogue also.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and check the System Information to see if you have the RAW support. Then reboot normally and check System Information again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

As a follow up when I tried on my iMac (not current version) pics still don’t download in raw only heif. However, originally when I did download to iPad it was by direct cable connection so then tried the same download using Sony’s Creator app and once again worked. Someone with a current Mac should try and see if it works with Mac now.
