Screen blinks black for a second and then resumes working normally
I'm posting this question because I have found a reason for this behavior whose solution I've not seen posted and thought what I observed might be useful to others. All other related questions seem to be closed.
I have a Mac Studio (2024) those secondary monitor would blink back for a few seconds and then resume working normally. In my case I have two Samsung 4K 28" (LU28R55) monitors. I connect to the monitors via a KVM. The KVM allows me to share the monitors with two other computers. Those other two computers were not exhibiting this same problem so I reasoned that the KVM was probably not responsible for this problem.
What I discovered was that one of the monitors was set at a refresh rate of 30 hertz and the monitor which was exhibiting the problem had a refresh rate of 60 hertz. I was able to lower the refresh rate on that monitor to 30 hertz. (That was a setting done on the monitor itself). After having done that, it looks like that solved the problem. I only say it looks like it solved the problem, because so far I haven't seen the problem reoccur since making that adjustment. It was happening maybe once or twice an hour and knock-on-wood I've gone a day without seeing this issue reoccur.
One other thing: when I say this problem didn't occur on the other two computers, that's not entirely true. One of those computers would have a slight flicker. (Not exactly the same thing as the screen going complete black for a second or two). With this change, I don't see happening anymore.
So this is at least something else you can easily look at if you're having a similar problem. And perhaps someone with more knowledge about displays could explain the spec about screen size, refresh rates and multiple displays.
