Logic Pro MIDI track won’t bounce

I have my Alesis Recital Pro piano hooked up via printer cable (yes, printer cable) to my macbook air. It’s the only input source available on the instrument. I am able to record and toy with MIDI tracks using this instrument just fine. It doesn’t seem like the software however recognizes the specific external instrument. When I go to bounce these MIDI tracks into a new audio track, the audio track that appears is a flat line, there’s no data. Is there something within the MIDI track that I have to adjust in order to make it bounce properly? Or is it something to do with the MIDI hookup itself?

If you have set the track (channel strip) to external instrument, you must record the "external instrument" as audio. If you are able to record MIDI with your keyboard in Logic, you can select a software instrument of your choice instead of an external instrument. You can then bounce the MIDI to audio.
