App I developed can no longer be opened

I developed an app in Xcode for iOS and MacOS about a year ago, that has been working fine all this time. Today I went to use it on my Mac, and received a pop-up "The application can't be opened". This happened once on my iPhone a few months ago, and I rebuilt/deployed the app to my phone again and it started working fine again. This app is in the App Store, and I have not had any issues from people I know are using it. Any idea what causes this? I shouldn't have to redeploy that app every few months. This is just strange.

When you deploy an App that you create from Xcode to your own device, the Certificate used to run the app will eventually expire. Xcode will automatically renew Certificates, so when you later deployed it again, you were using the updated Certificate that will again eventually expire.

To avoid this, just give yourself a free Promo code through the Developer Connect site and download the App from the App Store using this code.

AFAIK, that only works if the app has gone through review.

And if you’ve gone through review, using a “hidden” app works fine works without using a promo code.

OP: or you can rebuild it and re-load the app onto the device, and you’ll be good until the next expiration.
