Brand New MacBook Pro M3 Kernel Errors

I purchased a new MacBook M3 (8GB / 512SSD) and was receiving the following error. Apple Support told me to return it and I purchased another. I reinstalled Sonoma on the last computer. Run diagnostics and it's clean.

The only thing I have attached is a 32 inch Dell Monitor S3222DGM using an HDMI cable. I use the exact same monitor on an M1 Max from work and never experience the same issue. Can anyone explain what maybe happening or how I may be able to stop this from continuing to happen?

The computer randomly reboots multiple times with the error below. Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem. Reseating the HDMI plug into the port on the M3 MacBook Pro is the fix. Every time this has happened and I noticed it, the HDMI cable had been bumped or was very slightly loose. Pulling the HDMI cord out of the machine and putting it back in square and tight alleviates the problem until something bumps the cord again.

Biggest problem is the random restarts which cause me to lose open browser tabs.

Hopefully this can be a software fix but I think this is going back for a fix at this point. Perfect machine on the specs, features and feel of the keyboard with a mag safe plug. Ideal machine and then this happens.

So I saw on reddit that you can turn off 'Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off' and that fixes the problem as well. I reseated and changed how the display is inputted several times with no change. Even when using DisplayPort to USB-C/Thunderbolt it still does the same thing with this option enabled.

I decided to trade my M3 Pro 8GB/512 with a MacBook Air 13 16GB/512GB, I have not had the problem since. I believe there is a problem with the controller and/or software for the HDMI/USB/Thunderbolt that causes this issue.

Good luck to all of you on this issue! While I loved the Pro, the MacBook Air smokes!

I would be curious, which MacBook Air...the M2 or M3?

you have a limited 14 days for an exchange or refund for any reason—see Returns & Refunds Order status

Only items that have been purchased directly from Apple, either online or at an Apple Retail Store

Apple - Legal - Sales Policies - U.S. Retail Sales

After the return window any continuing/further hardware issues fall under warranty repair.

Turn around time I would expect no less then 10 days.

I ended up getting the M3 from Best Buy for $1349 on a price match from Amazon because it was $50 less than the M2 new from Apple and I'm not a student. If you are a student though right now you can score the M2 for $1279 with 16GB/512GB plus $150 gift card which is a great deal IMO.

The M3 under education discount will still run you about $1399 ($1499 regular price) but you'll still get the $150 gift card if you are a student under the Back to School 2024 promotion.
