Photos can't open Photo library... works fine after reboot.

Running Sonoma 14.4.1 (although the problem existed earlier) on an iMac-M3 (which is not an available choice in the list of Macs!). My Photos library (186G, 60,700 photos) is on an external drive attached to the iMac. Periodically I get the error message below.

After a reboot the library opens fine.

Any thoughts?

You may want to check your external drive with Disk Utility.

Error 1 or -1 is typical for hardware problems with your equipment.

Perhaps the external drive is failing or there is problem with the cable or dirt in the port.

You may also want to check the Activity monitor (in the folder Applications > Utilities) if the problem is occurring again, if some app is hogging all the memory. If some third-party app should have. a memory leak, it would explain why you have to restart your Mac to be able to open your Photos Library.
