Which MS Office version (2021, 2019, 2016, or 2011) is more compatible with a ProMac using M2 processor? And is it needed to have MS Office 365 on Mac before installing any other MS Office versions?

The Mac specific versions of Office 2019 and 2021 should work. 2016 will work if its updated to the 64 bit version, but Microsoft is no longer supporting or activating that version. The 2011 version will not work at all.
No, Office 365 is a separate product entirely. If you buy the 2019 or 2021 versions they install on their own.

Office 2019 and 2021 may use Office 365 files and base apps and make references to it, but do not require it be installed before you install them. Microsoft just uses the same base apps for both versions so may have references to 365, but will not require a separate installation of 365.
2019 and 2021 should install everything they need from their own installer directly.
if you are concerned, then Un-install the old version before attempting to install the new version.
Un-Install does NOT mean drag the old App to the Trash. It means use the old version's Un-Installer, provided by the software maker.
Someone in this community said that their MacBook tried to install MS Office 365 after installing MS Office 2021 (or 2019)! I just want to be sure that I won’t have problems launching MS Office after installation…
I don’t have any versions of MS Office on my device by now. I just hope it won’t need any prerequisites (like 365) to install Office on Mac.
