AFib Alerts Not Working

I purchased an Apple Watch 8 to monitor for AFib. When I initially set up the watch, it asked me if I have AFib. I answered this with yes. I have the watch now for almost 2 weeks and it never alerted me of AFib. When I look at my history, it tells me that I had AFib 20% of the time. So does that mean the watch detected AFib, doesn't notify me and instead just keeps statistics? In other words, are AFib notifications and statistics mutually exclusive? That would be kind of useless because when I have AFib, I want to take an ECG to get more details. However, if the watch doesn't notify me, then I don't know that I should to an ECG.
