Is Sonoma 14.4.0 compatible with 2020 iMac updated to OS14.2.1

I have a 27" iMac with M1 chip built in 2020. I have updated to Sonoma 14.2.1 but the application Preview has bugs that won't allow grayscale photos to be saved once altered. The Apple community that has been addressing this issue indicated that an update to 14.4.0 solved the problem. However, this update is not one I can download and install. Am I being stuck with this?

The Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020 is an Intel iMac model.

The 24-inch, M1, 2021 is the first silicon iMac model.

This solution worked! I was able to update to 14.4.0 in Safe Mode. It also solved the problem in Preview where grayscale images that had been edited could not be saved. I hope that the update problem doesn't recur again. I haven't added ANY applications to this Mac as they are on an older computer. Everything worked fine until I installed Sonoma.

Thank you very much for your time and knowledge.

Is it something to do with the chip being incompatible with this update? Apple never notified me about an update to 14.3. It seems they have no intention of fixing this problem.

sorry, no. there are no incompatibilities between 14.4.1 and Intel Macs. mine is the 2019 27 inch model, and it works very well with 14.4.1.

I think you may want to try and do a safe boot, and try and apply the update while still in safe mode. please see Start up your Mac in safe mode.

You are correct that this iMac has an Intel chip. I looked at your link to Apple support and it is compatible with Sonoma. However there is no update to 14.4.1. That I have been notified about. Is it something to do with the chip being incompatible with this update? Apple never notified me about an update to 14.3. It seems they have no intention of fixing this problem.

Thank you for your help.
