Can’t convert “photo” mode pictures to “portrait” mode on iPhone 15 pro max.

The photo edit "switch" on iphone 15 pro mac to change photos taken in "photo" mode to "portrait" mode does not exist. The "switch"" does exist to change photos taken in "portrait" mode to "photo" mode.

That's not surprising. Portrait mode requires additional depth information, which can easily be discarded or ignored later but not easily conjured up later if not originally recorded.


That said, there is an optional "Portraits in Photo Mode" setting in Settings > Camera > PHOTO CAPTURE that says it will "capture depth information if a person, dog, or cat is prominent in the frame in Photo mode, so you can apply Portrait effects later." Check to see if you have that option enabled and if your pictures have those subjects.
