Removing a phone number from a lost Apple Watch

I have a semi complicated request: I lost my Apple Watch two weeks ago, but somehow didn’t realized it was missing until 24 hours after the battery died on it I’m pretty sure. I turned on lost mode, but it’s been pending for two weeks. It has LTE, so I still have hopes, but I do want to remove the phone number from that Apple Watch so I can move it to a new Apple Watch. The problem is think is that it looks like I can’t do that unless I sign out of the Apple Watch, which I can’t really do right now. An option could be removing it from my trusted devices on my Apple ID settings, but I don’t know if that will stop lost mode from turning on since my watch still hasn’t been charged yet.

TL;DR:

I want to remove the phone number from my lost—but not turned on yet—Apple Watch without losing my Apple Watch forever.

I don’t know if that made any sense, but if it did, I’d like to hear your ideas.

You will need to contact your cellular carrier to have the phone number disconnected. Neither you nor Apple can do this. If you ever find your watch you will need to contact your cellular carrier to reestablish a phone number. Of course this assumes you are referring to a cellular enabled Apple Watch that has its own phone number. And the actual phone number of your Apple Watch is irrelevant because it is tied to the phone number on your iPhone. Just establish a new number on the new watch.

Let’s try again. When you unpair your lost watch from your iPhone you will asked if you want to keep your cellular account. Answer YES and continue with the unpairing. When you pair your new watch to your iPhone your cellular account will be transferred to the new watch with the same phone number. You do this yourself. If you want a different phone number for your new watch then call your carrier and ask for that.
