SD card reader problem

Yes, I was referring to transfer speeds.

And, I'm sure someone at Apple must be monitoring these boards.

I still have an open case with AppleCare and plan to still follow-up with that just to see what input they have. They had me save information from my computer using a capture program and e-mail it back to them to help them trouble shoot. They said it would take up to three days to get back to me. I'm interested in seeing if they found anything.

BTW, does the transfer speed of a card apply to bluetooth, too?

Having the same problem.

Mine was working fine in Feb or so.

Just attempted to blow, caress & manipulate my SD card.

nothing works - iPhoto open iPhoto closed

holding my tounge to the left or twisted - nothing helps.

APPLE GET IT FIXED!!!!!!

I am having this same problem too! I bought my 27 inch iMac in December and just recently tried to view vacation pics using my SD cards in the memory card reader. It didn't recognize any of them. Nothing showed up on the desktop or in iPhoto when I placed them in the memory card slot. I called Apple and they had me try a few different things, but nothing worked to correct the problem. So, my only other option is to drive to the nearest authorized iMac repair store, which is 3 hours away. This computer cost me $2000. There is really no excuse for this.

Don't believe it: i blew - with my mouth ⚠ - in the SD slot! Now my MBP 10.6.7 shows all my SD cards - no matter they are used for. spending hours with searching the web, asking apples support, reading faq, doing hardware reset, leaving it untouched for days... - i lost my nerves, turned my MPB in tilted position and just blew air in the slot. unbelievable, it's still working.
Did you read it? some guys try to do a workaround using MS Windows... - @APPLE: there are some really broken-hearted users. Is there a new slogan? "Take a deep breath."?

Apple, please do something. My $2000 Macbook Pro can't read SD cards. My $200 Netbook card reader works like a charm. Apple's "Genius'" have no clue what to do.

Well I'm delighted I have found the solution, which in my case is mechanical. As I wrote in my first post, I pulled out the express card adaptor, blew on it and slammed it back in. Bingo, my SD card was visible when I reintroduced it.

Yesterday, after taking some shots, I put in my SD card and it didn't display. What to do? Hey, I tried what worked the last time. I pulled out the express card adaptor again, slammed it back in and when I reinserted the SD card it appeared on the desktop.

Problem solved! And solved again.

So far no one has tried this to my knowledge which is a tad confounding.

My brand new iMac wouldn't read my SD cards either, even though my PC laptop would. Apple Genius couldn't help me and I was planning to take my Mac to a repair dealer three driving hours away from here!

Finally, I happened to notice that all my SD cards were in the locked position (they come that way from the manufacturer). I slid all of the tiny brackets over to the unlocked position and placed one into my Mac SD card slot. Viola! The card showed up on my desktop and my iPhoto as well. My Mac reads every one of them now.

Check your SD cards and see if the brackets are in the locked position. If they are, slide them to unlocked and see if this helps.

What about us MBP users who don't have express card slots? Exactly what are you yanking out with pliers?

From where I sit, it seems to be a software issue with the higher speed cards... I can read a PNY Class 10 16GB SDHC card (20mb/s) without fail... it's the SanDisk 16GB SDHC card (also Class 10, but rated at 45mb/s that fails every time...

That's not the issue for me. I checked that the very first time I tried to read the card... besides, that should not matter... you should be able to READ the data regardless of whether or not the card is write-protected. If not, THAT's a bigger #fail.

I've had the same problem. I have a brand new mac book pro which will not read my sandisk 8gb 30mb/s sd card. I spent over half an hour on the phone to applecare and they couldn't help me. The card reads fine on my old windows laptop. I even have an older 4gb sd card which reads on the mbp but wait for it..... my camera won't read that one! The only way I can import photos is by plugging in my camera via the usb cable and importing them through i photo. I'm seriously considering returning my mbp.

Also, the card reader is recognized in Windows, but still doesn't detect the card when inserted.

I just upgraded to OS X 10.6.8 and it seems to have fixed the problem. I have read two different SanDisk 16GB 30mb/s SDHC cards multiple times... AND IT WORKS!

It wouldn't read my 8GB cards. I added a 2GB card which it did recognize, after that it recognized the 8GB again

I had a similar but slightly different set of symptoms. My SD and SDHC cards would mount on the desktop and in finder but would not show in Image Capture or iPhoto. It looked like Image Capture had got stuck with one of my cards. When I logged in as the guest user, they all worked perfectly so I knew there was no camera card or Mac hardware issues.

To fix it, I quit all apps, deleted the Cache.db file in the ˜/Library/Caches/com.apple.imagent. I could not delete this file from the trash until I logged out and back in. Once the trash was emptied, I opened iPhoto and Image Capture and inserted a card and all worked as expected.
