SD card reader problem

Thats the stuff I HATE apple for!!!

Bevore my Update to SL 10.6.8 I never had an issue with the Cardreader on my Macbook (5,5). Since this update it didn´t recognise anything in the cardreader!

Tried all the Tips here in the thread. Blowing in the slot, wiggeling with the card, resetting PRAM and SMC, formating cards, even went to {HDD_name}->Users->{User_name}->Library->Caches and removed Cache.db file in the com.apple.imagentcom.apple.imagentand same file for iphoto and aperture.

A great way to spend my time on a beautifull sunday...Then I started cursing how much I hate apple bang shut the Macbook and left the house...

When I came back and opened it, the Card suddenly showed up - and everything was working fine!

Solution: Put your card in and then go to sleepmode by shutting down the lid. Wait till it sleeps, open again and your card should show up.

well, probably your sleepmode worked same as rebooting after deleting cache files ) so it worked.

and about hating apple: you would love it if you knew what regedit and bsod are )

just remember that nothing is ideal. apple is really doing it's best to satisfy everybody.

Just to clarify: I always have to set the Mbk in sleepmode to recognise the cards!

okay ) then **** happens.. there are different reasons of cardreader problems of course...

lol i was like yeahhh sure thatll never work. tried it and sure enough nothing showed up...then bam! card appeared for the first time in months!!! haha thank you!!

Hold the slot up to your puckered lips and give it a quick hard inhale. I ate dust, but this finally worked for me.

why not to try wacuum cleaner then? )))

I faced the same problem today and came across this thread. As my best guess was dust and I didnt have a air blower, I blowed into the SD card slot with my mouth itself, and it worked. I know its not a good idea.

SOLUTION:

ok today i found out that when i insert a card and it does not show up on the desktop, i only have to start iPhoto and then suddenly it is there! On the desktop and in iPhoto! Even more interesting: when i eject the card and quit iPhoto, all the cards i insert later are recognized immediately! (Probably not after a restart ...)

The actual solution is to Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)

I have done this twice--no good. That is not a solution that works on my MacBook Pro. So far, blowing air in is the only thing that worked and now it is not working again!

Cleaning the port with compressed air worked for me too! I guess sometimes you just have to go with the KISS method!

again have the same and now nothing from the list above helps.... ((

Same for me, just blowing into the hole fixed it for me. apple needs to put a little door in front of this slot.
