Mac 2019 desktop with black screen after software update

I have an early 2019 iMac Retina 4K 21.5", bought brand new two years ago. I have only done software updates three times since, and it’s been roughly a year since the last one (a Monterey update). Today, I can’t remember the exact update I was doing (12 something, sorry that I can’t recall) and it seemed to be updating as normal, with the loading screen and countdown. However it’s been stuck on a black screen for almost an hour. I don’t believe it’s supposed to do that, right? Or should I just sit tight and wait?

I don’t live anywhere near an Apple store and anxious that I bricked my computer or lost all my data somehow. I’m not very tech savvy either, so any simple advice is appreciated. Thank you.
