Canon Canoscan 8800F Flatbed Scanner - OOD Driver

I have a brilliant Canon Scanner which I now want to use with my 2020 MacBook Air M1 and 2019 iMac. Checking the Canon site the last Mac OS driver was released in 2017 for Yosemite OS X 10.10 as the scanner is now obsolete. Is it safe to install this on my MacBook please? I have been using the 64 bit driver which has worked perfectly a Windows 8 machine since I bought it.

Any guidance would be most welcome. Thank you

Yes it is safe to use. You will, however, need to install scanner software that is compatible with the Mac's operating system. If it is not available from Canon, you can install and use the VueScan app and it should work. It is a full featured app which is well supported. There is a one time charge for it. You can test it for free with a watermark. I use it and can recommend it. I have no association with VueScan. Here is the download link.
