Drop down menu on iphone 11 pro max does not work

the drop-down menu on my iPhone 11 pro max has not been working as of late, I have done two force restarts and have done everything that was recommended to another user to do, who has had this issue and nothing has been working, the only time I have been able to access my control center is when my phone is turned horizontally. Is there another way for me to fix this without having to shell out a ton of money, I am a broke college student who got this phone as a gift about 3 years ago.
