FIXED! Garageband STILL not opening after Sonoma 14.4.1 'fix' - stuck on 'updating information about audio unit plugins'

As the title suggests, I was a victim of the Sonoma 14.4 update (lesson learnt, don't update straight away) which results in Garageband (similar issue experienced by Logic Pro users) stuck on 'updating information about audio unit plugins'. I read up on the issue with the plugins, to be fixed in MacOS 14.4.1 release - which I installed today. I'm still having the same issue however.

When I bought my Mac (my first), my aim was to get back into my music creation. Starting with Garageband, then I'd invest in Logic... I now have a fashionable paperweight and it's driving me crazy.

Please, can anyone help? Do Apple read these posts? Thank you!

Apple support personnel do not read these, we are generally a group of volunteers. For Apple support you need to call Apple Care.

However, do you have any third party AU's installed?

Have you tried these:

If GarageBand isn't working on your Mac - Apple Support

You can also try to start in Safe Mode:

Unfortunately Apple is not letting me post a link due to it being on Reddit 😞

but essentially it was by removing plugins causing an issue from here:

From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Go to Folder, type "/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components" into the Go to Folder field, then click Go.

FIXED, finally! (I hope). So AFTER updating to Sonoma 14.4.1 and still having the issue, I followed this step:

And that has fixed it.

I took a copy of these components first, just in case - recommend you do the same, just keep them out of that folder.
