MacOS 14 Epson WF7840 printer, WiFi - crazy slow, frequently drops connection/"offline", and says its out of paper.
After installing MacOS 14.4.1 in wireless (WiFi) mode printing (from) and scanning (to) my Mac the printer ALWAYS says the printer is out of paper (it is not, it does not matter what tray... all are full and properly installed). In addition scanning and printing are VERY slow. The signal strength on the printer says "Excellent". About half the time scans do not complete, I restarted the computer/printer/router - all three, and am able to resume, then suddenly the same problem. After a month of these issues I returned the WF-7840 to where I purchased it and they sent me another one. Same issues immediately. I have verified that I have the latest firmware, drivers, and software. Same results. I have removed/uninstalled the printer/scanner multiple times and reinstalled it. Same results. I have tested the speed of the wifi on other Mac computers and devices, same issue (all running MacOS14). I have tried to print/scan with other computers both wired (USB) and wifi, same issues. I have reached out to Epson who tells me is an issue with Apple's Bonjour/Airprint under MacOS 14.4.1 running on "older Macs" -- I have a MacBook Pro 2023 16" M2 Max. This is driving me bonkers! It should not take 10 minutes to scan a single page document at 200dpi. I will occasionally get a "lost connection error" that appears to be generated by the Epson Scan 2 software. The other two "errors" are "out of paper" and "printer is off-line" which are in the system print dialog box. All of this was working before Installing MacOS14 on the other Macs. Befuddled.
