Podcasts continually download on macOS Monterey 12.7.1

As per the title. I never realised that podcasts were downloading to my desktop Mac. I have now turned off "Automatically Download" in my preferences, however when I delete previous downloads they simply re-appear and download again.

I went to my downloads folder, sent all downloads to Trash, and within a few minutes 14GB worth have re-downloaded.

What is going on and how do I stop this, without un-following the podcasts I'm interested in?
