Converting purchased Itunes songs to AAC format

I added an album via Apple Music subscription. Then purchased the album. Deleted the album multiple times from library and from disk. Go the long way via "Family purchases" and re-download the purchased album again. Still in "HLS" format, which cannot be converted.

How can I correctly download my purchase?

"Error occurred while converting the file “Risingson”. An unknown error occurred (-50)."

Maybe helpful addition: when I go the "not working re-download path" the file size (~9MB) might be that of an MP3 file instead of the ~32MB of the HLS format.

Select the local copy of the album, right/ctrl-click and use Remove download. Under Music > Settings > Playback make sure to turn off the Lossless audio option. Now try downloading the tracks again. They should download as AAC files in .m4a format that you can convert to something else if necessary.
