Any way to mute an entire app on MacOS?

Hey, y'all.

I have a Homekit setup with cameras, and I like to have the Home app open to see when e.g. a delivery arrives, but the Home app affects the way sound is played on my Mac even when I mute the audio for the camera I'm looking at.

It would be awesome if, similar to the way Chrome lets users mute tabs, we could just disallow specific apps from playing audio.

Is there currently a way to do this? Could it be added in an upcoming MacOS release, if not?

Thank you!

We are just users, not Apple, so we know nothing about what may come in a future release.

You can use the feedback page to make your wishes known to Apple:

I believe that there are applications that let you route audio from different applications to different outputs.

The third party free application "Background Music" can set different audio volumes for different applications, so in principle it may mute some applications and not others. It is worth a try, I suppose.
