Splitting PDF files using Automator on iMac running macOS Ventura

Hi everyone,

I tried following the instructions posted by VikingOSX on this thread:

Automator - Splitting PDF files - Apple Community

Although the Automator interface shows all green checkmarks when run, the chosen PDF does not get split and the target folder is empty. I followed the instructions to the letter but it's not working.

I am running an M1 iMac with macOS Ventura 13.6.5.

Viking, if you by chance see this, I would greatly appreciate if you might be able to tell me what I am doing wrong or missing.

Hey Jon,

I created this shortcut for the Shortcuts app: Shortcuts - Split PDF into Multiple Files. Download it to add it to your shortcuts in the Shortcuts app.

When you run it, it will:

Prompt you to select a PDF to split.
Prompt you for the number of pages per output file.
Prompt you for the location of the output files.

I hope this is what you had in mind.

Hi Viking,

I would still like the action to ask how many pages and then split the PDF into "chunks" containing the number of pages specified by the user.

Perfecto! The only change I made was to add a "Run AppleScript" at the end to display a "Done." dialog.

Great! You could use the “Show Alert” action instead at the end of the shortcut. This is a built-in action in Shortcuts.

I develop and test solutions on Sonoma, then test again on Ventura. Almost always, that is sufficient. However, the events in this thread now suggest I should also be testing on Monterey too.
