How can I advance frame-by-frame using keyboard within video?

I'd like to be able to advance through a video frame-by-frame using the keyboard as I'm seeking to export frames as still images. In most apps you use the arrow keys, maybe with a modifier. I realize you can scrub by clicking on the playhead and dragging it, but it's not nearly as easy to control as a keyboard for this purpose. Is there a native keyboard control for this? If not, could I possibly set up a custom keyboard shortcut that would work in this manner? Thanks!
