MacBook Air(M1 2020)becomes incredibly slow when opening tab groups on google chrome

My MacBook becomes incredibly slow. I've only had it for 2 years now and it has just become very slow in the recent months on Google Chrome. I've noticed that when opening groups of tabs, it becomes almost unresponsive and very slow. I've also seen that certain tabs sometimes spike to +100% in the activity monitor. This is surprising as other people with the same MacBook as me (M1, 2020), have no issue opening tabs or any other issues with Google Chrome. Thanks for any help!
